Barlow

Barlow Smith and his family own a substantial vineyard in northern Napa along the Silverado Trail near Calistoga. Their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Bordeaux blend, which they call Barrouge, are rich and full-bodied but balanced. This is a family operation. Their tasting room is the beautiful front porch of their home.
Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon: This wine has a solid tannin structure that will allow it to mature nicely over time, with pure black currant fruit interwoven with tobacco leaf, ink, smoke, and forest floor. The aroma shows the essence of the property with black sour cherry, rum raisin and just a hint of French vanilla. Medium to full-bodied, pure, rich, and convincing, give it 2-3 years of cellaring and enjoy it over the following 15+.
Merlot Merlot: This 100% Merlot is rich and ripe with wonderful expressions of blue berries and dark fruits. It displays a soft velvety texture with succulent flavors of plum, French vanilla and spice. This Merlot is a perfect accompaniment to barbecued chicken, pot roast or mushroom risotto.
Barrouge The Barrouge is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It finishes with soft elegant tannins and touches of roasted almonds that come from the 22 months in French oak. A softer wine, it reveals chocolate, black cherries, and black currants, a lush texture, elegance with substance, and a nicely textured finish. It should drink well for 7-10 years.
